Kaitlin Monte is a New York based actress and civic advocate currently serving as Miss New York 2011.
Kaitlin is an advocate for safe and supportive academic, social, and professional environments. She is traveling the state throughout the next year to speak with audiences about the dangers of bullying, abuse, and harrasment. Kaitlin has partnered with leading internet safety expert Parry Aftab and is an Honorary Member and advocate for the Teen Angels program. Other programs she works with include The Ophelia Project, The Bully Project. Kaitlin is partnered with New York State Senator Jeffery Klein to push updates to cyber-bully legislation in Albany, helping launch the first-ever New York Cyberbully Census.
In order to end bullying, Kaitlin believe it is vital to broaden the scope of our youth. As Miss New York she launched Project Empower and serves as Executive Director of Operations. This non-profit provides hands-on learning experiences in civic involvement, community leadership, business tactics, professional mentoring, career simulation gaming, corporate and univeristy partnerships, and more.
Kaitlin acts as a goodwill ambassador and supporter for a number of organizations such as YAI Networks,
Miss America Organization, Kaitlin serves as an ambassador for all nine of New York's CMN Hospitals.
KAITLIN CROWNED MISS NEW YORK 2011, PLACES 2nd RUNNER UP AT MISS AMERICA
Competing alongside women from across New York, Kaitlin took the title of Miss New York 2011 during this year's competition in June.
Kaitlin represented her home state at this year's
Miss America Pageant held on January 14th, 2012 at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. She placed second runner up and took home the Preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness Award.
Competing in the Miss America system has earned Kaitlin over $46,000 in scholarships.





MISS NEW YORK JOINS SENATOR KLEIN TO LAUNCH NEW YORK CYBERBULLY CENSUS PROJECT
On October 13th, Kaitlin joined New York Senator Jeff Klein and Assemblyman Will Scarborough for a press conference announcing a launched of the New York Cyberbully Census. This online survey allows students to log on and anonymously report experiences with cyberbullying.
This data gathering initiative – the first of its kind – is expected to provide a comprehensive picture of the problem of cyberbullying in New York State. The survey will run until the end of the year.

MISS NEW YORK 2011 PARTNERS WITH CHILDRENS MIRACLE NETWORK
An official partner of the Miss America Organization, Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit that provides medical programs and funding to a network of over 170 hospitals nationwide. Since the development of their partnership, Miss America contestants have raised over $5 million in support for CMN.
Kaitlin is commited to expanding the relationship between the Miss New York Organization and New York's CMN Hospitals and will be raising funds to support their continued development. Visit her Children's Miracle Network page to learn more.
KAITLIN THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN NEW GLOBAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE
Project Empower is a new non-profit that provides free educational programming to schools and youth programs along with partnerships with world-class universities and corporations. The programs focus on career and life skill development through hands-on learning activities.
Kaitlin will serve as Executive Director of Operations and help oversee the strategic development of the multiple education initiatives within the organization.
Project Empower launched in October 2011 and reached global expansion over the following month.
KAITLIN JOINS SENATOR KLEIN ON MSNBC TO DISCUSS CYBERBULLYING
Kaitlin and Senator Jeffrey Klein joined Thomas Roberts on MSNBC to discuss their efforts to combat cyber-bullying in New York.
Kaitlin has partnered with Klein to support his newly proposed bill against online bullying as well as a state-wide education initiative. The bill will be supported by information gathered from the Cyberbully Census launched this fall and will be presented in Albany during the 2012 legislative session.


KAITLIN FOUNDS PETITION TO SUPPORT CYBER-BULLY LEGISLATION IN NEW YORK
After the September 18th suicide of 14 year old Jamey Rodemeyer of Buffalo, NY, Kaitlin started a petition to support the development of cyber-bullying legislation for New York State.
On September 27th New York Senator Klein presented a bill on cyber-bullying. The petiton serves as a "people's voice" in New York legislators' continued work to develop legal tools and protections for young internet and digital media users.

Kaitlin Monte places 2nd Runner Up at Miss America 2012
Competing alongside 52 fellow candidates from across the country, Kaitlin placed 2nd Runner Up at the January 14th Miss America 2012 contest. The winner, Laura Kaeppeler, hailed from Wisconsin and will represent the national title for the coming year.
Kaitlin was also selected as one of eigth finalists for the "Quality of Life" Award, an award honoring women for their community impact through their platform efforts. She also took home the Lifestyle and Fitness Preliminary Award. Kaitlin's scholarship earnings from the competition totaled $21,000. Watch clips from the competition here.

KAITLIN TO HOST FIRST PROJECT EMPOWER REGIONAL NON-PROFIT COMPETITION
After competing in Project Empower's non-profit competitions at schools across New York City, 12 winning teams of students will participated in the Project Empower Non-Profit Competitions to present at the first-ever regional finals on February 10th, 2011.
The winning team will be selected by a panel of professionals in the fields of global finance, civil service and business to recieve one year of funding and a partnership with Project Empower to expand their initiative throughout their community.
